Gaming Legislation in Pennsylvania
Casinos in Pennsylvania have been legalized in 2004. Currently, there are more than 20 casinos across the state, with several establishments under construction or in planning. Only horse racing, slot machines and electronic table games were initially legal in Pennsylvania, although a bill to legalize table games was negotiated in the fall of 2009. Tables games such as poker, roulette, black jack and dice were finally approved by the state legislature in January 2010, being signed into law by the Governor on January 7.
Each casino in Pennsylvania can have up to 5,000 machines maximum, except the resort licensees, which are allowed up to 600. As of August 2011, 12 of the licenses had been awarded. One license for a racino had not yet been awarded, plus a license which originally been awarded to Foxwoods Casino in Philadelphia was revoked in December 2010.
Pennsylvania Casino Industry: Improving and Developing Constantly
In January 2010 the Pennsylvania legislature approved the addition of table games for the Pennsylvania casino gaming hubs, including live poker, for all casinos. The first casinos began offering tables games in July 2010.
